Where is Derby?

Derby is a city centrally located in England in the United Kingdom.  It has served as the location for numerous historic events, and over the years has been the home of many accomplished writers. One of our webpages gives a great deal of detail about Derby, including a considerable number of links to other websites associated with talented sons and daughters of the city and region.  Click here to find out more.

2009 Latest News

Our 2009 competition is now closed to entries, as of midnight on 31st May. Our 2009 poetry judge is Pat Borthwick and  our 2009 short story judge is Sara Maitland.  They will over the next few weeks be reading all submissions, every one of which will be presented to them with no indication of who the author may be.  Winning stories and poems will receive cash prizes of £500, £250 and £150 for first, second and third places respectively in each category.  Winning works will be reproduced on this website. In addition, our judges will draw attention in each category to their six other favourite works.  Please bear with us, as we have no intention of rushing our judges - they need time to make the right decisions, which we are sure they will do.  We do not expect to inform winners of their success until mid-September.  This year's award ceremony is to be held in the city of Derby on October 9th 2009.

Our website is regularly updated with familiar and some not-so-familiar poems and short stories from  writers across the world.  Our latest addition can be seen by clicking on this link -Words - which today features Pablo Neruda.  We list all previously featured works in our Archive.  Feel free to browse - we're sure you'll find something of interest!
