Derby is a city centrally located in England in the United Kingdom. It has served as the location for numerous historic events, and over the years has been the home of many accomplished writers. One of our webpages gives a great deal of detail about Derby, including a considerable number of links to other websites associated with talented sons and daughters of the city and region. 2008 Winners and Award Ceremony Our judges have a
fair amount of reading to do and decision-making to undertake, so we
have given them a number of weeks in order to complete this. Winners and
commended writers will then be informed of their success. This year's award ceremony
will be held on 10th October 2008 in the city of Derby. The venue
will be announced very shortly. Every day our website features familiar and some not-so-familiar poems and short stories from writers across the world. Our latest addition can be seen by clicking on this link -Words - which today features Mary Oliver. We list all previously featured works in our Archive. Feel free to browse - we're sure you'll find something of interest! Please note that our website will not now be updated during our summer break until September 1st. |
Entries to our 2008 competition can no longer be accepted, as we have an annual closing date of May 31st. Our judges will now be taking their time over the summer reading entries and making decisions. Winning stories and poems will receive cash prizes of £500, £250 and £150 for first, second and third places respectively in each category. Winning works will be reproduced on this website. In addition, judges will draw attention in each category to their six other favourite works.
