Ian
Parks, our poetry competition judge,
produced his first poetry collection in 1985, Gargoyles in Winter (Littlewood),
and this received a Yorkshire Arts Award. From 1986-88 he was
writer-in-residence at North Riding College, Scarborough. He
received a Hawthornden Fellowship in 1991, a Travelling Fellowship to
the USA in 1994 and was one of the National Poetry Society New Poets in
1996. His poetry has received numerous accolades and awards,
including the Royal Literary Fund 2003, the Oppenheim Award 2001 and
2002 and the John Masefield Award 2001. Ian is consultant editor
for Dream Catcher, serves on the judging panel for the TMA
theatre awards and reviews contemporary poetry for Poetry Quarterly
Review.
Parks'
work has appeared in such publications as Acumen, The Observer,
Oxford Poetry, Pearl, Poetry (Chicago), The Shop: A Magazine of
Poetry, The Yellow Crane, Dream Catcher, Poetry Greece, New Welsh Review
and Cascando. His other collections include A Climb
Through Altered Landscapes (Blackwater 1998), and The Angel of
the North (Tarantula CD 2000) and Departures and Rendezvous: Love
Poems 1983-2003 (Shoestring Press 2005). He has given over 300
readings and workshops around the world, including The Poetry Centre
(New York), Lancaster Literature Festival, Poetry Cafe (London),
Troubadour (London) and the Sheffield Literature Festival. Ian
Parks is "The finest love poet of his generation" (Chiron Review, USA). His
