You can find out more about many Derby literary events by contacting Alex Davis or Catherine Rogers, the Literature Development Officers for the city of Derby at this link. Alex and Catherine are also able to supply details of numerous excellent creative writing groups and other regular literary sessions in the city and region that are not listed here.

 

This list is by no means comprehensive, but is intended as a chronological list of forthcoming literary events we are aware of within an hour or so travelling distance from the City of Derby.  If events are missing from the list and you feel they ought to be included, please let us know by emailing this link.  It is advisable to check with venues/organisers prior to arranging to attend any of these events to ensure that details are still as given below.

Alt.Fiction

'Alt.Fiction is one of the UK's leading event for writers and readers of horror, sci-fi and fantasy fiction. The Alt.Fiction event draws together a range of writers from around the country for a packed day of readings, panel discussion, workshops and Q+A sessions.  Alt.Fiction began in 2006 and in its first two years has presented an incredible array of writing talent including Tony BallantyneIain M Banks, James Barclay, Chaz Brenchley, Ramsey Campbell, Mike Carey, Mark Chadbourn, Simon Clark, Storm Constantine, Pete Crowther. Stephen Gallagher, Simon R Green, Peter F Hamilton, Harry Harrison, Graham Joyce, Tim Lebbon, James Lovegrove, Juliet E McKenna, Richard Morgan, Stan Nicholls, Justina Robson and many more.  Alt.Fiction enters its third year in 2008, and the event will be taking place on Saturday 26th April. Confirmed authors so far include Eric Brown, Mike Carey, Christopher Fowler, Adam Roberts, Philip Palmer, Brian Ruckley, Simon Spurrier and Charlie Stross.  Expect plenty more to be confirmed before the event, with 20-30 authors and publishers taking part each year.'
